BKIN Information Session

We recommend that prospective students review the undergraduate section of the School of Kinesiology’s website before attending an Information Session. Each section offers detailed information about the BKIN degree program, helping you arrive with specific questions and interests. Whether you’re interested in program requirements, admission timelines, or specialization options in Kinesiology, reviewing this information beforehand will enable you to have a productive discussion with our Academic Advising staff during the session. High School Applicants
Admissibility for Secondary School applicants is determined on the basis of a number of factors including performance in specific high school courses, the overall academic rigor of the program, evidence of relevant learning and achievements both in and out of school, and other indicators of suitability for the Bachelor of Kinesiology program at UBC. The School of Kinesiology has implemented a Broad-Based Admission policy for Secondary School applicants that incorporates the use of supplementary criteria in addition to academic performance in the selection of students entering the Bachelor of Kinesiology degree program.
First-Year Credits from IB, AP or British A-Level Courses
First-year University credit may be possible for students that complete certain coursework through the International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, or British-Patterned A-Level coursework. These credits may be used to meet lower-level BKIN degree requirements. For details on what first-year credit you’re eligible to receive, visit Undergraduate Admissions and Programs.
Post-Secondary Transfer Applicants
Whether you are coming from outside UBC, or hoping to transfer from another Faculty within UBC, this is your pathway if you have taken a minimum of 24 transferable credits at a recognized college or university. Please note that if you have completed between 6 and 23 transferable credits, your basis of admission is a combination of your high school and college or university work. Both your secondary school and post secondary studies must satisfy the UBC entrance requirements for your program of choice. If you have completed 24 or more transferable credits at the post-secondary level, UBC will calculate your GPA based on your post-secondary courses. If you have earned more than 30 transferable credits, you will be evaluated on your most recent 30 transferable credits of study, including any failed or repeated courses.
Transfer Credits
To help you determine if your post-secondary work is transferable to UBC, please see the BC Transfer Guide. In BC, post-secondary institutions guarantee credit for courses or programs completed at other institutions, provided that these are listed in this Guide. If a satisfactory grade has been achieved and if UBC offers an equivalent course, UBC will grant transfer credit for any course successfully completed at a recognized post-secondary institution. The maximum allowable transfer credit is no more than 50% of required program credits or up to a maximum of 60 credits.
Second Degree Studies
As a Second Degree student, we recognize that you have already completed a full degree in another area. As such, when completing a BKIN, these credits will apply towards a maximum of up to 60 elective credits, within those normally required by students completing their first degree. This means that in most cases, a Second Degree student will at a minimum need to complete 60 credits of KIN courses, including all lower-level core KIN requirements as well as 36 credits of upper-level KIN coursework.
Applicants who have completed a significant amount of KIN coursework during their first degree are encouraged to consult with the Kinesiology Undergraduate Advising Centre before applying for admission.
